"How many hours per week do you work?"
Working very few hours seems to be one of those things that business coaches and entrepreneurs use, to convince us to buy their stuff. They promise to show you how to make multiple 6-figures...while never working more than a few hours a day! Sounds amazing, right?
Scouring the internet these days you would think everyone else is making millions by barely working. But remember what your mama taught you: "If it seems to be too good to be true...it probably is."
While I can't speak for EVERY business owner, I CAN share how it works for me. The truth is: "How many hours do you work" is nearly impossible to answer because it changes so freaking much from day-to-day.
Some weeks, I literally work ZERO hours while still making some money. These would be the weeks that I am on vacation and the money I make comes only from passive income. I make money from either the products I sell or affiliate commissions while doing absolutely ZERO hours of work. However, those weeks are extremely rare.
Other weeks? I work 50-60 hours or more. These weeks usually happen when I'm trying to grow. Perhaps creating a new course or launching something new, while still serving my clients and marketing my business. These are the weeks I question my own sanity. There is lack of sleep involved and occasional tears.
Then there are the weeks in between which, quite frankly, are difficult to assign a certain number of hours to because it's always changing. In a typical week, I likely spend anywhere from 2-8 hours a day on client work or coaching Virtual Assistants. I also spend time marketing, doing administrative tasks and creating content for my own business. Again, the number of hours I spend doing those things each day varies a LOT.
If you were to ask me how many hours a day I spend THINKING about my business, generating new ideas, learning new skills and brainstorming then I would probably have to confess I work something close to 100 hours a week or more...LOL.
The truth is...these hours don't really 'feel' like work to me. I listen to Podcasts while working out at least a few times a week. I attend webinars or paid training courses weekly. I use a planner to vision and brainstorm ideas daily. I read books for inspiration every single night. Even while I'm binge-watching Netflix I keep a notebook handy to jot down the random ideas that bubble up.
So if you wanted me to be honest about how many hours I work...those 'Thinking' times would add up too. Even though I ENJOY those hours...they would likely still qualify as 'work' to some extent.
I promise you, I rarely spend more than 4 hours a day chained to my desk (although some days I do). A career as a Virtual Assistant gives you a TON of freedom to work where you want, and when you want. But I don't really believe you get to work less than everyone else. It just feels more fun.
